European Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius has called for Spain to raise its defense expenditure to 3% of GDP, citing heightened threats from Russia. The demand aligns with broader NATO spending targets, which former U.S. President Donald Trump recently suggested should reach 5%.

Spain’s current defense allocation stands at just 1.3% of GDP for 2024—the lowest among NATO members. Kubilius emphasized the need for immediate action, stating Madrid must "find a way to increase defense spending in the NEAR future."

The geopolitical tension underscores growing institutional focus on security budgets across Europe. While the announcement carries macroeconomic implications, no direct cryptocurrency market correlations were identified in this defense policy development.
